what I wore… part 34846

Firstly, I’d like to apologize for the craptastic photos. But, I do have a good explanation. This was shot at the SLS Hotel in Los Angeles, where every room, hallway and nook and cranny is hopelessly dim. It’s a beautiful hotel designed by Philippe Starck, but it’s starving for light. I call these kinds of hotels ‘up to no good’ hotels… because everyone looks like they’re up to no good in the dark. Even the bathrooms were dark. I had to use the light from my iPhone to pluck my eyebrows. Truth.

Anywho, I was there to interview Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried for the new Andrew Niccol movie, ‘In Time’. I really loved the movie and admire Andrew Niccol’s work. ‘Lord of War’ and ‘Gattaca’ are some of my faves by him. Anywho, this is what I wore to the interviews…

-A vintage 1940’s red and white polka dot 2-piece suit in silk. The jacket has a peter pan collar, which I love. I bought this decades ago in a Salvation Army in Rhode Island. It was like $10- super cheap. I thought it looked similar to the polka dotted suits Marc Jacobs sent down the runway this past Fall. The only thing is that it is so delicate- there are rips that I have to mend the elbows every time I wear it … I either have fat elbows or the dress is super delicate.

I accessorized with  a Murakami pin bought from the Murakami exhibit at MOCA a few years ago. Also, I thought the turquoise patent leather skinny belt would give the outfit a nice POP.

My nails were done by moi, which explains the shaky red lines. I should’ve had that Lara bar before I did my self- manicure. Anyway, I wanted a punky french manicure, so I chose red, instead of the traditional white tips.

And lastly, my shoes are Marc Jacobs. They are canvas and are pretty comfy for a high heel. I think the rubber soles helped, so I didn’t trip like a fool between interviews.

And lastly, my hair is still pink at the tips. I like it at the tips because I can put my hair in a bun and still look normal, or let it down for a punky look. I guess it suits my two sides. And of course, I topped it all off with a big ass silk bow on my head!

Voila!

PS- No, I’m not prepping for a urine sample at the clinic in the second photo- it’s just the bathroom sink at the SLS hotel.
