what I made : The Purse Edition

I was really inspired by the Alexander McQueen Faberge handbag I saw at The Met a few months ago. Here is a photo of  it. Although it’s definitely not as intricate as the McQueen one, the one above that I made is surely less expensive and still gets the look across. I used a Maxim’s metal egg that I had bought in the duty-free shop from a trip back from Paris a few years. I saw it hanging out in my curio cabinet with all my tea sets and thought I can put it to use. I think it had come with a bag of chocolates at one point which I had gobbled up instantly. All I did was hammer a nail through the top to make a hole and added a hook and gold necklace chain. I added gold glitter/hot glue at the top to hide the hook. I’m really happy with it! It only took like 20 minutes to make.

Below, is what I came up with when I saw this fine pocketbook at Braccialini. I really like their whimsical handbags- I have one that is the Little Red Riding Hood handbag. The only thing is that they aren’t cheap! Here is a photo of the bag. So, I bought a vintage oval hat box luggage case from Etsy for like $30 and used a bunch of different fabrics to create a Russian Doll. Then I glued it on with vinyl glue. Probably not as nice as the Braccialini, but at least it looks kinda crafty and hip. It only took me a few hours to make. Initially, I wanted to use the luggage as the Faberge egg project, but then I thought it was too big and would look like an ugly Easter egg when I got done with it! And voila! You can definitely make anything on any budget if you really want to!
