Here is Balmain‘s latest collection… the soon-to-be extinct ‘Resort’ collection. Due to the impact of Covid-19, designers are rethinking the entire fashion schedule. Is a resort collection necessary? Why do we have so many collections? What is the environmental impact? Should we turn our focus to societal and systematic problems across the world? How can we wear $3,000 dresses when people have lost jobs, are dying and are unable to purchase food? … and so on and so forth… The fashion system is not immune to the world shake up of the past 4 months.
In any case, we can expect many changes – out with old , in with the new- but more fiscally responsible and environmentally conscious on a whole new level.
BALMAIN was one of the designers that went ahead with a collection – all 1980s- inspired with boxy shoulders and bold patterns. My fave is the pink gingham print pieces….just the right amount of vintage glamour and summertime cheer !
