Recently, I went to The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA near Little Tokyo in Los Angeles for the ‘Art in the Streets’ exhibit. I was super excited about this one because:
A) it was the first time a major museum has dedicated an entire exhibit to the art form of graffiti
B) I get to see a real Bansky up close
C) Andre the Giant was gonna be there and he’s one of my peeps from Rhode Island!
D) I took my son, who I am grooming carefully to be the coolest kid ever! (he loved it , by the way!)
I took tons and tons of photos which you can see here, however, I couldn’t post all of them here. There was a huge line to get tickets, but it moved pretty fast. The exhibit covered a lot of space and was well worth the trip. Featured artists included Banksy, Shepard Fairey, Keith Haring, Rammellzee, Invader, Kaws, Risk, Mister Cartoon, Os Gemeos, and Miss Van to name a few. There was an area of the exhibit where the ‘streets’ were recreated. It was so authentic, I thought a crackie was gonna jump out from behind a dumpster! Awesome!! ‘Art in the Streets’ runs until August 8th, 2011.
I wore: H&M dress, H&M leopard knit cardigan, Marc Jacobs shoes, necklace by Tarina Tarantino x Kidrobot.
