I had the pleasure of visiting The Metropolitan Museum in NYC last week and catching the Rei Kawakubo/ Comme des Garçon Exhibit before it comes to a close next month. It’s one thing to see these pieces of art in a magazine or on a computer monitor…. but to see them in person… BREATHTAKING! A camera simply cannot catch every fiber and detail that a human eye can capture… perhaps it’s not just the human eye, but rather, also the spirit these magnificent pieces of art evoke in a room. It’s almost as if the dresses have a soul or something! And the wigs…. all made by expert bespoke hair/wig maker Julien d’Ys ! Such beauty in a dozen metal scouring pads deconstructed in a way to mimic hair… GENIUS. Ok…I’ll lay off the Kombucha… any who, my fave Comments des Garçon collection is the Japanese Samurai collection…. so many pieces making up one garment… such a feat to design. If you are in NYC, catch the exhibit before September 4th…. it’s well worth the trip, especially if you are into the avant-guard, as I am. Until then…. enjoy these photos! xx
