What a shock when designer Jean Paul Gaultier announced a few days before his Haute Couture show that it would be his last! The ‘Bad Boy of Fashion’ has been at it for over 50 years and has decided to take another direction. Closing his ready-to-wear line a few years ago was surprising… usually the costly couture collections are nixed before the profitable ready-to-wear line.
In any case, Gaultier has been one of my most favorite designers of all time… the one and only perfume I wear is JPG Classique… worn since I was 13 years old when it first came out! Gaultier was one of the first to make undergarments into outergarments and make corsets, stockings and latex more mainstream. I’ll miss those quirky, yet sexy ensembles… but guess what?! I have a closet full of Gaultier, so I’ll be sure to hang on to them knowing he’ll probably never design a collection again…. unless, he’s holding a secret meeting with say…. H & M?? To be continued… ! In the meantime, farewell Les Enfant Terrible! 💋
